What is the difference between Animation & VFX?



 Animation and vfx are seen in films especially Hollywood superhero pictures. Of course, the world of motion media is not limited to only international films and Bollywood also has used these techniques even in some older films.  Yet now, it has spread its wings towards the domestic films too. The two terms- Animation and VFX  may seem similar but there are some key differences. Many people believe that animation is a part of VFX. But this is not true. Both are categorized under the fine arts section of bsc in animation and VFX . Let us understand what they are. 

Animation:

Animation is the technique of applying illusions on the painting/ sketches/ drawings so that they move and act. Animation is what we see in cartoon series. Or it is also defined as “animation is motion graphics that are applied to the pictures or sketches in order to create characters and motion”.

It uses the existing frame or footage and applies animated or imaginary effects using computer software. It can be done by sketching by hand or through a computer or the combination of sketching and computer-generated images.

It takes more time to produce an image but the existing cells or frames can be re-used in this technique to save time.

Like most art forms, animation courses too grew from a rudimentary stage. One of the biggest animation studios and films were started by Walt Disney. 

Visual Effects:

VFX is applied to real scenes/ frames/ footage of actual humans or things. VFX is the combination of real things and special effects that are added to real-life to the real on the reel.

One example is the Baahubali film.It was a combination of VFX and real footage. Action scenes, scenery manipulation etc were a big part of the movie. It is also used in scary movies insead of prosthetics. 

Here. it is clear that animation is motion-picture drawings where as VFX are effects added to real footage.
